He spent nine years at his home-town club, Wolverhampton Wanderers, from 1975-84 and played in the League Cup Final victory over Nottingham Forest at Wembley in 1980. He also won three caps for England B under the legendary England Manager Sir Bobby Robson.
However, he ruptured his Achilles tendon in 1984 and after spells with Manchester City, Sheffield United and Gillingham among others, retired from playing in 1989.
On retiring as a player, he became an independent financial adviser, dealing mainly with professional footballers, then became one of the first licensed football agents before setting up Eleven Sports Management.
As managing director of the company, he has devoted his time to looking after professional football players and making sure they receive the best advice possible in order to help them to maximize their potential.
Years of experience and expert knowledge is used to enable players to fulfil their potential, with many going on to enjoy a professional career.
That knowledge is also put to use in helping young players make their way in the game and to help performers in other sports achieve their maximum potential, through the use of cutting-edge programmes in training techniques, diet and nutritional advice and mental strengthening.
The speed consultant at Eleven Sports Management is Roger Walters. Roger is a former Great Britain international sprinter and coached the Great Britain sprint squad at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
He has over 30 years experience, both as a competitor and coach involved at international level. More importantly, he has helped to coach the fundamentals of sprinting to professional footballers for over 25 years.
When we move, we use energy. If we move inefficiently, we need more energy to cover the same distance and this limited resource runs out sooner. On the other hand, players who move efficiently with the correct mechanics will move faster with less effort. Under Roger’s practiced eye, every client working with Eleven Sports is assessed and taken through a programme that corrects inefficient movement patterns and provides a personalised exercise programme.
The results are obvious; not only in faster acceleration and higher top speed, but also in fewer injuries and much more energy. Our experience shows that the majority of sportsmen, especially football players, are not taught the mechanics of movement, so aren’t aware of the techniques of how to run and accelerate properly. They therefore aren’t as fast and mobile as they could be, so won’t achieve their full potential.
With Roger’s help, we believe they will do so.
